So this week we have LOVED our fresh fruit & veggies from our Co-op. Some have asked for details on how this works. We have a ‘general manager’ of the co-op. She contacted a local Produce Company that sells to restaurants and grocery stores. We were able to sign up as a group to receive wholesale pricing on the produce. We pay 15$ twice a month. So every other Tuesday we pick up a basket from her garage with all of our items (dropping another empty basket off for next time) After one week though we did find that it was best to have stackable baskets so they wouldn’t take up room in her garage. She purchased cheap laundry baskets for $2 a piece so they are all the same. It worked great! This wonderful neighbor goes to get produce and does the leg work of separating it for us all. Which we LOVE her for.
One of my friends called last week about the same type of co-op that runs throughout Northern Utah & Arizona. From what I understand it works the same way price wise and on a biweekly rotation as well. here is a link to that company website. www.bountifulbaskets.org also from what I understand, they have volunteers with the company who sort he produce before you would go and pick it up from one of the truck locations available. She has loved the quality of her produce so far also. She said it looked like roughly the same amount as in my photo. With both of our co-ops it is random fruits & veggies each week. Which has been fun for the kids to try new things & gets me thinking a little more creatively with incorporating the food. Alyssa now loves Nectarines & Tyson will eat slices of Kiwi that he once wouldn’t. Yea! We’ve been able to reach for grapes, cherries and strawberries as snacks - without waiting for the sales.
