WHAT A GREAT THYME

Mary, Mary quite contrary
…How does your garden grow??
.
Well, we’re not quite to the point of silver bells and coquille shells yet, but Alyssa’s Herb Garden has done pretty well this summer. It’s just in the beginning stages, and we have a lot to learn about Herbs, but we had such a fun time harvesting our first crop a few months back. She cut, washed and bagged them. We only have a few different ones. Next year we plan to add more, along with starting a flower garden together.

FORTITUDE
for·ti·tude (fôr

)
noun.
Strength of mind that allows one
to endure pain or adversity with courage.
“No pain that we suffer, no trial that we experience is wasted. It ministers to our education, to the development of such qualities as patience, faith, fortitude and humility.
All that we suffer and all that we endure, especially when we endure it patiently, builds up our characters, purifies our hearts, expands our souls, and makes us more tender and charitable, more worthy to be called the children of God . . .
and it is through sorrow and suffering, toil and tribulation, that we gain the education that we come here to acquire and which will make us more like our Father and Mother in heaven.”

The terrible forces of evil must be confronted and held accountable for their actions. This is not a matter of Christian against Muslim. I am pleased that food is being dropped to the hungry people of a targeted nation. We value our Muslim
neighbors across the world and hope that those who live by the tenets of their faith will not suffer. I ask particularly that our own people do not become a party in any way to the persecution of the innocent. Rather, let us be friendly and helpful, protective and supportive. It is the terrorist organizations that must be ferreted out and brought down.
We of this Church know something of such groups. The Book of Mormon speaks of the Gadianton robbers, a vicious, oath-bound, and secret organization bent on evil and destruction. In their day they did all in their power, by whatever means available, to bring down the Church, to woo the people with sophistry, and to take control of the society. We see the same thing in the present situation.
We are people of peace. We are followers of the Christ who was and is the Prince of Peace. But there are times when we must stand up for right and decency, for freedom and civilization, just as Moroni rallied his people in his day to the defense of their wives, their children, and the cause of liberty.
Now, brothers and sisters, we must do our duty, whatever that duty might be. Peace may be denied for a season. Some of our liberties may be curtailed. We may be inconvenienced. We may even be called on to suffer in one way or another. But God our Eternal Father will watch over this nation and all of the civilized world who look to Him. He has declared, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.” Our safety lies in repentance. Our strength comes of obedience to the commandments of God.

MY DRAG’N FEET
I sure have been drag’n my feet lately with updating our summer activities on the blog. Now that the first week of school is over and routines hopefully will continue to settle in, I will enjoy a little down time during the day between tasks where I can catch up without pitter patter at my feet.
Speaking of drag’n feet…I took this photo below on a whim at Tyson’s football game last week. It landing right near on the rope in front of me. I think it turned out rather well. I didn’t have a macro and it was a spur of the moment shot. I like the crop and recolor of the top photo. What would we do without post process editing these day?
So- now I have entitled this lil gem DRAGON FEAT. And set it as my computer wall paper for the week. It hopefully will remind me to keep movin’ ahead—looking forward to accomplishments and goal setting. There is always something to be done. It takes hard work and FOCUS to hone in on the most important priorities. Even those tasks that make me want to drag my feet…because accomplishing them seems like an unobtainable “Dragon’s Feat.”

PIN CURLS
Lyssie Lou let me put her hair up in pin curls last night. I am lucky if she lets me do anything with her hair most of the time. Curls are maybe a two or three time a year thing for her. SO, I was excited to try these. With her fine straight hair- they turned out great! Even the ends curled- no kinks. I’m hoping she’ll let me try it one more time this week, and make the ends a little looser for more of a wave effect- closer to the look of the photo on the bottom right. Fun!

6TH & 2ND
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL 2012-2013. We are all excited today!! It’s been a fun, but long summer. I’m usually left wanting a few extra weeks to spend enjoying the last moments of our Indian summer days, however, this year…we are in much need of, well…simply…a schedule. Not looking forward so much to the early mornings- but definitely the earlier bed times and hopefully brighter smiles with more sleep!
This is the last year these two will be together in school. I am looking forward to spending time in their classes and making the most of enjoying the little things they get to do together at school this year!
